Which patient to refer?
Any patient exhibiting a behavior that concerns you! A puppy or kitten that is fearful or resists an examination probably won't just improve over time. An early evaluation will provide your clients with reasonable expectations. Early intervention will include behavior modification and appropriate management techniques for the young patient. A senior patient with behavioral concerns can also be challenging to manage. Undesirable behaviors in seniors threatens the human animal bond and puts even healthy seniors at risk. Managing patients with multiple medical and / or behavioral diagnoses may require complex therapeutic interventions including combination drug therapy. This is where team work can make all the difference in providing the best service for your clients and patients.
